Two ideas.  Keep the following in mind:
-What are you interested in and why
-What you hope to find and plan for getting there
-Why is it important. You want to convince people unfamiliar with the literature
-Potential sticking points
-How to salvage some of your work if the project doesn't work out as originally intended

Additional Tips
Empirical: Why are you doing things the way you're doing them?  Need theoretical justification.
Quantitative: Is your model differentiated in a meaningful way?  Avoid unmotivated extensions, particularly avoid undoing elegant simplifying assumptions in a crude manner.  Realism should not come at the cost of applicability.  The best models are simple, flexible, and intuitive.
Theory: Do you have a simple and elegant theory for an stylized fact which has been largely ignored in the literature?  Emphasis on elegance and generalizability.
